Anybody work in this field or have in the past as a NP?

I've seen many adverts for jobs in this field looking for NPs.

I'm not really into anti-aging and all that, but i LOVE procedures, and i know there are other things like tattoo removal..

But why or how are you using your NP skills?

Just a random question of interest, probably not something i will pursue but was curious.

The procedures can be fun, chemical peels, microderm abrasion, various laser procedures, injections.

The down side, patients can have unrealistic expectations... want a face lift results for a chemical peel. And much of the job is sales which I am very bad at.....

Interesting to learn, some neat science behind the light based procedures.

Surprisingly, in TX a person doesn't even have to be a midlevel in order to perform these procedures. I know MA's who have been trained to administer botox injections. Yep, they're not even LVN's or RN's, but MA's. As long as a doctor is on site, they are allowed to do this. However, if no doctor is on site, then a midlevel has to perform the botox injections.

I did aesthetics full time as an RN. It is really easy, very socialable type work, lots of smoozing, lots of selling. Patients are unrealistic, demanding, agree to take the risks for s/e for stuff like botox and want to sue you as soon as a s/e occurs (I'm talking ptosis, not something permanent). Theres also alot of psych issues, self esteem, perfectionists.

Honestly I could never go back to doing it full time. As for using any NP skills- I didn't use any and did quite well as an RN. One of the reasons I would not do it full time now is because you will lose your NP skills. But it does pay quite well!
