Advise for ongoing pharm/patho review

Published

I am a family nurse practitioner student. I have just finished taking advanced pathophysiology and advanced pharmacology. It was an enormous amount of information to learn in a short amount of time (8 weeks per subject). Although, I've done well in the classes, I know that my knowledge is not up to snuff for practice as an FNP.

My strategies to continue to increase my knowledge is to review topics of patho, with corresponding pharmacology on a regular basis. In practice, I plan to utilize databases, and apps such as Epocrates and Up to Date.

My question to practicing NPs is what were your own strategies to solidify your knowledge in these subjects? Is there anything else you would recommend or advise against?

Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide!

As you enter the clinical phase of your studies, you will be exposed to the major health needs and you will draw on your pharm and patho education. Digging deeper will give you a better understanding of these subjects in relationship to the disease, cause/effect, and treatment. When I finished those classes I was like "what?????", but then they started to make sense and helped me during the clinical classes.
