Advice to take the right steps into nursing

Published

Hello everyone! Currently I am at MiraCosta College in San Diego taking prerequisites with general Ed to transfer into a local nursing school at the community colleges or CSUSM. For the first semester my GPA was 3.2 but now my head is on straight cause I know nursing is very competitive. My goal is to become a labor & delivery nurse and I've been looking into internship programs and the point system to get into the programs. I would love to hear others stories and steps I am missing so I can be sure get to my goal! Thank you all!

Leilani,

Firstly, good luck! I'm in the beginning stages of applying as well!

Colleges and policies are all different so I'm not sure how yours is, but my suggestion is to find the Nursing advising office at your college and speak to an adviser. They should be able to go through your classes and make sure you have all the proper pre-requisites.

At my college, we're given the application and there's a checklist on the front page that tells us everything we need to have and if anything from that checklist is missing from the application when it's turned it, it is not accepted.

I suggest just speaking with that adviser and make sure you have a list (whether it's given by them or you write it down) of what you need for your application.

Depending on the application deadline, I'd suggest doing this ASAP because some of the items may take a little time to obtain.

My school requires the following:

Pre-requisites

TEAS V results

High school transcript (unofficial)

Other college transcript (if needed)

A Nursing Informational Session within 90 days of applying

There are a few more minor items that I can't remember off the top of my head, but those are a few of ours.

Just get with an appropriate adviser and see what's needed.

Good luck!
