So...need some friend advice from my fellow Nurses & soon to be Nurses. . .

I have been in the mtg industry for almost 10 years now, give or take either insurance or mortgage.

I have my Undergrad degree in Business/Marketing...

Late last year, I decided on a career change...Flight Nursing (down the road of course)

I have Bio/201 & 202 and Chem still left to do at Pima Community College...all while still working full time.

I feel I am burnt out with this business and being in school makes me want to work within the industry even more.

Now, with the recent career change I want to do, I've been looking and sending off resumes to hospitals, care homes etc.

I just got a call from a Dermatologist company so, i plan on calling back around lunch time to see if they would like to meet etc...only thing is I know I'll have to take a huge pay cut leaving this business. Just to give you an example, my bonus checks are twice as large as my nice size normal check. UGH. I probably make more now than I would starting off in Nursing.

Am I crazy to want to make the change? I know I have to be able to financially be able to do this...but is a derm office the way to go - least for now, should they even be willing to hire me? I just dont want to make an irrational decsion.

Thanks all in advance.

I wish I had an answer for you. Some would say getting into any healthcare job would be a step in the right direction. I worked as a Medical Assistant and that is what got me on the road of nursing. However, I have recently decided pursuing nursing right now is not the right decision for me. I actually have been in sales the last 3 years and recently have been contemplating getting into the Insurance industry. Maybe I could pick you brain on that one. But, as far as you working for so much less, not sure it would make a huge difference for you once you are done with school and looking for a new grad position. It depends on what type of nursing you are wanting to pursue. Maybe while you are still making great money, you can start saving and then once you actually get into nursing school, you can take a low paying position at a hopsital? In my opinion that would not only enhance your chances of getting a spot in a program faster, but then also help you in landing a new grad position. Lots of questions when first getting into nursing, but every road is different for each person. Good luck to you!

Thanks so much Sassiebaz...Yes, you are right. Every road does lead to a different direction.

I just with they came easier...but, I usppose if they did, the end result wouldnt feel the same.

Shoot, what questions do you have...My prior history was in insurance, now I am in the mortgage industry.

Mortgage, Insurance? Send me an email...I'd like to pick your brain!
