Advice for stressed SRNA

Published

Just started my crna program as UOM, Flint feel like I am being beaten up everyday. 2 days of clinicals and 2 days of class. Having 2 major test and a quize in a day. Why is it that most nursing related programs always beat down on their student. No support what so ever. I am begging people who have the opportunity and capability to please make a change. Positive feedback is more productive than negative feedback at least in human beings.

Anesthesia school is hard. I don't think there's anyway around it. There's so much information you need to know in a short amount of time. I don't think it's "nursing schools" that tend to beat up on their students, it's just the nature of anesthesia training.

Build in 30-60 minutes in your day to exercise or nap or eat a good meal or talk to significant others etc... that will help your stress levels and allow you to study better.

This is new to you. Take a deep breath and forge ahead. It's worth it in the end.

If you think its hard now....it only becomes more time consuming. 2 days of clinical? Wait until you become useful, running your own cases. Expect 60 hr work weeks, in addition to classes and exams.

You probably begged to get into a program: "I'll do anything." Remember?

Positive feedback: It's all how you look at things. Perspective is everything. Attitude can turn a good day into bad, and **** morning into satisfaction.

You might just be blowing off steam...that's fine. But this is your attitude, you're just going to remain miserable--and make others around you miserable also.

I'm an SRNA 9 months into the program, and I'm feeling the way you do. I feel like the job will be great once I have finished school, but 19 more months seems so far away. It is really depressing, however, I worked too darn hard to get to this point, and there's no way I'm giving up. I just take one day at a time, and look forward to the end of the week when I can do something to relax. You just have to look at the CRNAs around you and recognize how happy they seem to be, and realize you won't be a student forever. Things will eventually get better.

Thanks to all of you. I feels good to know that I am not the only one and that I am not just stupid to think that I can do it. Yes, you are right, I have come someways, given up much for this, has not intention of giving it up, but God, its very hard.
