Advice regarding internship in the OR

Published

i'm looking for some advice on what is the norm for internships in the or. this past week i snagged an or internship at a local community hospital. i am a relatively new graduate from 2010, so i'm not really up to par on what is normal for an internship. i was told the internship would last 6 months, would have 8 hour days, monday through friday, with no guarantee of hire after the completion. the internship is a new program for the particular hospital so they're working out the kinks as they go along. all of that is understandable but i was just a little concerned if most internship for that span of time is normally unpaid. working 8 hour days 5 days a week is comparable to full-time hours and during the interview it was highly encouraged for the applicants not to work/take off any days during that 6 month period for other work. i just might be naive to the whole process but i am finding it a little difficult to understand how to balance a 'full-time' internship, completing my bsn online, and not being able to work. thank you for any and all help or advice.

Im keeping my fingers crossed and praying that you get the job. The OR is where i want to be also. I applied for an internship OR position as well. I applied on Sunday. i was thinking about giving it a week and then following up concerning my application status. what do you'll think? should I give it a week or call sooner to speak to someone? This particular OR internship begins in JULY 2011..... :)

Bariq - Thanks for the prayers because I truly need it. It's been hard trying to find my first RN job without any experience. I pray that you get an interview for the OR position as well.
