Advice for new mom working nights?

I’m currently on maternity leave and when I go back to work in a few weeks I’ll be back to working nights (3 12s). Any night shift moms with advice on how to spend time with my baby and husband and not be a sleep deprived zombie? I’ve thought about looking for a day shift job too, if anyone thinks that’s the best route. There are some available within my hospital, just not in the area I’d prefer.

With a newborn and a full time job, you'll probably be a zombie no matter what you do.

When I had my first baby, I switched to per diem for better control over my schedule. I also scaled down to one night a week, but I'd stay per diem for the scheduling even if I worked full time hours.

Day shift may be ideal for some, but I feel physically ill early in the morning. Nights are also easier to work around my family's schedule. It's highly personal, in other words. Only you know what's likely to work well for you.

CONGRATS, by the way!
