Advice needed for a New Grad RN

Published

I am a new grad RN that recently received a job offer in the OR at a really awesome magnet hospital in Durham North Carolina. Yes, that one! The hours are 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM. I was unable to except the position because my husband works from 6 AM to 2 PM and we have three school age children at home. I was then told that they really want me there and they are willing to except me in the March cohort. Being an OR nurse is my first choice and it is the reason I went to nursing school. However, due to Covid I’m starting to realize that maybe the OR no longer fits my lifestyle. March seems like it’s far away but let’s be honest this Covid situation doesn’t seem like it’s getting better anytime soon. It seems as though maybe clinic nursing or ambulatory nursing is my best bet because the hours are closer to normal business hours which would make it easier for me to find a sitter. I’m so lost now and so depressed because my heart is not in those positions. So here’s my question, what if I take an ambulatory position from 8 to 5 for the next year or two hoping that the country goes back to some sort of normalcy would I then be able to join a new to the OR program even though I technically would not be a new nurse after a year or two? Does anyone else have any better ideas or options that I could entertain? I’m open to all suggestions.

Thanks!
