I'm looking for advice. What communities/areas are affordable and still an easy commute to Cedars Sinai? I would need a 2 bd apartment.
Also, any information on the area, or hospital would be great.

First you need to realize that a 2-bedroom apt. in many of the LA areas will cost you at least $1500-$2000/mo assuming you want a safe area with parking. I suggest you go to http://www.apartmentguide.com to help you in your search. Cedars is located on the edge of Beverly Hills so you've got Hollywood/West Hollywood to your east, Sherman Oaks (over the hill in the valley) to the north, Century City, West Los Angeles, Brentwood, and Santa Monica to the west, and Culver City to the southwest. All areas have good and bad parts (many areas have some gang activity).
Cedars is a great hospital, but a little too big for my taste. Welcome!

Tiny - did you accept a job there at Cedars yet?
I have not accepted a position, as I cannot find out WHERE to live.
I understand that it is a level I teaching faclility, which is not a problem for me. I have only been in the SD area of California, so I have no clue about LA.
yes, i've checked out apartmentguide.com, but don't really know which AREA I should live in considering a commute. So, any advice from there would be appreciated.

My stepson also suggested West Hollywood. He was living there when he had a tonsillectomy at Cedars Sinai (with two f/u visits to the ER-but that's another story) You should be able to get a 2 bedroom apt for around $1,500. That would be a bit easier than driving from Sherman Oaks or Valley Village, although they would work. As Gompers said, there are good areas and not so good. Probably best not to sign a long lease on a place at first.

Tiny -
I work at Cedars Sinai and I live about 8 miles away (city of LA). That's about a 20-minute no-freeway drive for me. Two br apts in my neighborhood are around $1200. West Hollywood/Beverly Hills (right around hospital) are more pricey ($2000 +). Yes, Cedars is a huge place, got more people than many small towns (10,000 employees), but it's an honor to work here. You've got all the specialties available, plus research opportunities if that's your interest. Feel free to PM me if you need more info.
