Advice needed for experienced nurse on soon to be job hunt

Published

Hello all,

Thank you far any responses, I am appreciative.

Ive been in the nursing field for 8 years. Started as a LPN in Jan/10 and then completed my RN in May/12. I started my career as a CNA and continued working at the same LTC/rehab unit from 2008-2013. I worked at a inner city hospital in the ER for 5 months until commute (1 hour in the winter one way) became too much, and honestly speaking patient ratios were 5 sometimes 6/1 in a busy trauma 2 hospital, which exceeded what I believed in. I gave proper notice and was hired in my hometown community hospital (a lot smaller and patient ratios were a lot better and more manageable) from 2013-2017. I picked up a PRN position at the LTC facility I had worked before because I ran into the HR lady on a walk in our neighborhood, I then worked from 08/16-11/17 when my husband took a position in a larger city.

I have been looking up different positions and it seems I have every opportunity in the world compared to where we were located prior. I am so darn confused on what to apply for. I miss aspects of the ER but don't want to work in a large inner city hospital in that field, it looks as tho because of our location I will be looking around downtown for employment. I also had my 3rd baby in 2016 and am not sure I want the stress of the ER as well.

I miss building repoire with patients. I would like something lower stress, I realize nursing is extremely stressful but I don't want the organized chaos in the ER at this time. I should note I'm also searching for weekend alternative or PRN work due to my husbands job and expensive daycare. Are hospitals willing to train nurses transferring fields for PRN work? Any resources that I could use to look more into different fields I would enjoy? Ok this is becoming long winded. Again thank you for reading and any helpful advice is welcome.
