advice on hospital TRAINING

Published

I am currently working as an Xtern for a hospital, which is part of a larger health care system in the north side of chicago.

I am close to graduating, and pretty confident that i will graduate, and will pass the nclex.

So my new issues are becoming which hospital should i work for as a new grad RN.

My hospital is overworked and understaffed. and i feel some of the nurses there are so cold, i dont know if i could sacrifice myself to become that way. Actually i refuse to.

They are willing to hire me at the hospital, and probably in ICU, which is where i want to work.

My question falls into where in chicago do they have excellen preceptorships for new grads, ie class room training, quality time spend on orientation, etc. I do not think my hospital, or hospital care system is known for this....

Im giving myself a reality check, and want to make sure i make the right choices. If you have any advice of where to get a good orientation, or where not to go, let me know. you can also EMAIL or PM me.

I WOULD SOOO APPRECIATE IT. ;)

ps ANYWHERE IN CHICAGO AND SUBURBS WOULD BE OK. ILL CONSIDER ANYTHING.

I live downstate but even waay down here, have heard that Norwestern and Loyola provide good orientation and education. Good luck.

I would recommend checking into Northwestern, Rush, and, if peds interests you, Children's Memorial.

In the 'burbs, Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights has a good reputation, as well as Edward's in Naperville, and Rush-Copley in Aurora.

I personally have had horrendous experiences with the Provena organization, and would not go near any of their facilities.

Good luck to you!
