Advice on where to go from here.....?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi y'all. A little background... I graduated from HS at 16 and started college in the fall. My original plan was to go straight into nursing school, get my ADN, work for a while then go back and complete a BSN/MSN and become an NNP. Things happened and I realized I didn't want to wait that long to get into the medical field so I applied for a MA program, got accepted and will be graduating this August. I'm in my final semester and am doing my externship at TCP. I have decided now that I want to get my LVN, continue working for Texas Children's and eventually go back for my BSN and maybe get a Masters in child development and/or psychology. My passion is working with kids and providing them with effective, quality care and helping them through the uncertainty and confusion that being in a vulnerable (patient) position brings. I was thinking about becoming a ChildLife specialist but I really enjoy the medical aspect as well......

Ahhhh I'm confused....if that isn't already obvious. I know for a fact I want to be in the medical field working with kids.....as to which profession I ultimately want to end up at.....I'm hopping back and forth like a grasshopper.... help me? Please and thank you :)

Well this is hard to answer for someone else. I know when I was confused if I wanted to continue on in my nursing education (I am already an LPN, was looking into other options like administration) I took a break before I committed to anything I wasn't 100 percent about. I didn't want to get half way into a program, invest money, and decide it was not for me. I saw a few people this happened too and it buried them in debt without any degree to show for it.

I took a good 6 months to ponder it, researched thoroughly the other careers I was interested in, and one day I knew it felt right to continue onto my RN. The nursing field is all I have ever know! I started as an STNA at 19 and enrolled in LPN school at the same age. I can't see myself doing anything else and now I want to do more. So my advice is, take a bit to research your options because the answer will come to you when you least expect it. Btw awesome you graduated at 16, wish I would have been motivated enough at that age.
