Advice on Career Pathway

Published

Hello all!

I am a new grad nurse with a BSN and I was wondering if it was a good idea to start my first job working at a rehab facility and then applying to a hospital after about a year of rehab experience. Will it be easier for me to get accepted to a hospital position with rehab experience? Please let me know what your thoughts are! Very much appreciated!

Depends on where you are located. In rural areas I think its easier to find hospital jobs. But If I were you I would apply at hospitals, LTC, doctors office etc. I'm a fairly recent grad too. I started working corrections then med surg. I think having some type of nursing experience helped me get the hospital job. Working in corrections as a nurse did hone my organizational skills/time management, assessment, talking to MD etc etc. You will be in a far better position working as a nurse at a non hospital job vs that old new grad waiting for that golden new grad position

at that magnet hospital.

Yes, that definitely makes sense. Thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it!
