advice on a c-section client

I have been searching my book and the net and haven't come up with a satisfying answer. What nursing interventions would be used for excessive lady partsl bleeding during the immediate post-op period following a C-section? Can't do fundal massage, right?

You can do fundal massage, but you have to be more gentle. I just check to make sure the fundus is firm without doing a lot of actual massage. And is the OR before we even take her off the table, we do a very vigorous massage to expell any clots that are lingering. That usually takes care of it.

I don't know if this is the kind of intervention you're looking for, but remember to teach the client about it and to do peri-care if necessary. When I had my first baby, I had her via an unplanned c-section. That evening, the nurses stood me up to change the bedding on my bed and the blood literally poured down my legs (sorry, that's kind of gross, I know). I had no idea that it would be like that, so I freaked out. The nurses were awesome, calmed me down and explained what was going on, and cleaned me up. I was so embarrassed that they had to do it for me, but I was so sore from the incision that I could never have done it myself. I remember thanking them over and over again. They were so nice about the whole thing. I really thought they were the epitome of what a nurse should be like.
