I am starting advanced pharm next semester. Anyone got input about the text they found helpful?

My instructor recommends "Modern Pharmacology", 6th Ed. Any experience with this book?

Thanks.

OK, so that book sucks. Have found good online reviews for Katzung, Basic & Clinical Pharmacology. Any experience with this one?

Come on, someone must have had a good pharm text!?

That Katzung text was recommended by the course coordinator for my Advanced Pharm course as a reference. I actually didn't buy the book. We had hand-outs for each of the sessions of the course and they were adequate enough to understand the course and pass the exams. We were also given links to latest guidelines regarding specific drug therapies (JNC for HTN, GOLD for COPD, etc). Reading the latest JNC text for hypertension treatment was actually more helpful than reading a chapter on the treatment of hypertension from any textbook.

Thanks for the reply. I borrowed the Katzung book from our library, it is good adjunct info, esp for the pharmacodynamics/kinetics part, but I think you're right about the actual drug info.
