ADN transfer to Excelsior

Published

I completed 3/4 of my nursing program at my community college and now have enrolled in Excelsior. Are there any Excelsior graduates out here who transferred from a community college to Excelsior that were not an LPN and have completed the program? Thanks for any information.

Sorry, I'm not a graduate, but I am fninishing up 1/2 of a traditional nursing program and then enrolling in Excelsior. So I'm not an LPN. I will transfer at the end of December. I am going to go ahead and take NC1 and NC2 this summer so that I don't have to wait for the paperwork to go through to see if my classes will transfer since I can't even apply until December (they won't let you apply until you are completely finished with 50% of program). :-( I also will go ahead and take Life Span and the Literacy course. Just wanted to let you know that I will be doing the same thing as you so if you want to correspond I'd be more than happy to.

Have you run into any problems getting your licensure in PA not having had your LPN prior to graduating from excelsior. I live in central PA and am a military medical corpsmen and thinking about going to Excelsior but I don't know if the BON allows licensure without previously having you LPN. I contacted them but haven't heard back yet. Just seeing what your experience was.

Thanks!

Hi,

No I haven't had any trouble. I contacted all the hospitals, including large teaching hospitals, and they happily accept Excelsior graduates, who were not LPNs when they enrolled into Excelsior's AD Nursing program. They know the program is hard and that it takes a lot of work. There are plenty of positions at hospitals, LTC, etc. for graduate nurses in central PA who are graduates of Excelsior College.

I have not graduated yet. I have completed all my nursing theory exams, and I am scheduled for the CPNE mid-August. The Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing recognizes Excelsior graduates, whether you were a traditional RN student, LPN, or whoever Excelsior accepts into the program.

Good Luck.

I know you werne't asking me and I don't live in PA, but just wanted to make sure you know that in order to get an RN with Excelsior you have to be or have done one of these three things: be an LPN, completed and passed 50% of a traditional nursing program OR be a paramedic. I graduated in January 2008 from EC and am working as an RN on pediatrics in my local hospital. Hope this helps!

Melissa,

Thanks for the post. I am aware of the requirements for getting into the program. You missed another option for acceptance which is to be a military medical service corpsmen which I am. Still thinking about my options but I really appreciate input. Thanks!

Hi,

I saw your post and I just wanted to encourage you to make sure you complete 50% of the clinicals of your traditional nursing program - not just 50% of the traditional program. There is a difference. I wanted to add that b/c I did the same thing and everything has worked out really well for me with transferring to Excelsior. However, I had a friend who withdrew from a traditional program thinking that it was 50% of the program instead of the clinicals. She was denied acceptance into Excelsior.

Just looking out for you.:wink2:

I will add that the transition to Excelsior's program was great. I was very successful in everything and I am now waiting to take the NCLEX soon.
