I am starting my first semester of ADN program have 21 months left (yipee) and 4 ttl semesters.
I was reading through the nursing program policies and they use a different grading scale then regular school/classes. Ex. 78 is the lowest C you can get. 86 is the lowest B you can get and 93 is the lowest A you can get.
I plan to bridge while working as a RN to a BSN. This is offered at a local 4 year school as an accelerated program. However, my concern is I got a 90% in one of my pre req's, this is an A rt now. It would be a B in nursing class. Will this effect my GPA for BSN acceptance and possible graduate school? Of course it will. Do all ADN nursing programs grade like this?
Sorry for "RANT":p

I would think that the grading scale would only apply to your nursing classes or any other classes you take at the ADN school, so if you took your pre-req at another school where the 90% was graded as an A then it will always stay an A for transcripts, gpa, etc. To be on the safe side though, I would still recommend asking someone at the nursing school just to be sure. Good luck and congratulations on starting your first semester of nursing school!
I expect my previous classes to stay as transferred in. I guess I need to re-word my question.
Since the grading scale has been tuffened up 92=B, 85=C , when I have my current transcripts looked at by a future prospect will they take in effect that the grading has been turned up. When I apply for my BSN bridge program and they require a 3.0 minimum I am gonna really have to work harder than some one else who goes to a ADN school that does not tuffen up their grading scale just to keep up with them. I am starting off with a max score of 97% compared a school who just uses a 90%-100% equals an A and 80%-89% equals B.
If most or all ADN programs do this then we are all in the same boat then I feel we are all equals. So I guess I have two questions. Do most ADN programs grade this way? If not do the BSN programs that you are considering take this into consideration and look at your pre req science scores?
Thanks in advance:wink2:
I'm not sure if all or most ADN programs grade that way (I start my program in 2 weeks, so I'll let you know how mine is) but in regards to a future BSN program looking into your transcripts I would think that if your current ADN program has alot of students that transfer into the BSN program they are probably pretty familiar with your ADN school already and would be aware of the different grading scale. When it comes time to transfer, however, you can always see if your ADN school can also send a breakdown of their grading scale along with your transcripts so that the new school is definitely aware of the different standards. When I sent in my high school transcripts to my nursing school I had them do this become they also had a stricter grading scale than most schools.

My schools grading scale is
94-100 = A
87-93 = B
80-86 = C
Anything less than 80% and you are done. I really envy the people around here who are allowed to let their grades drop into the 70s. That would be nice. :-)

Most schools will go by the regular scale when you transfer classes. I have a B.A. and when I applied to the ADN program my classes transferred face value, they weren't changed into the Nursing scale. I would think most places would do this, but definitely ask them if you are concerned. I am starting my second of four semesters. It's a lot of work but I know it will be worth it at the end of next year. Congrats on starting your first semester!

Your grades are your grades. If you earned an A in a prerequisite, no one can change that. This means that you satisfied the requirements to earn an A in that class. Besides, they would never know what number grade your received.

Don't worry about whether your prereqs were a 90. Transcripts transfer letter grades (A,B,...) rather than percentage.
