ADN or BSN? Which is right for me

Students Pre-Nursing

Hi! So I'm a newly certified CMA and I'm also going to get my CNA soon so that I have employment options while I'm doing my prerequisites. So I have a question about nursing school. Say I go BSN and end up failing I cannot then be a nurse right? So would it be better to first do ADN then go for your BSN so that I could still be a nurse if I did fail in BSN school? Excuse me if I'm confused about nursing school. I just worry about future schooling because I've never been great academically. Thanks guys!

If you fail BSN school, you can still be a nurse. You'll just have to start over again, and go back to school. This is a tough question. I'd say that the future of nursing is going to weigh heavily on BSN nurses. Will you still get a job as an ADN? Yes. Will you be able to advance as far with an Associate's? No. I know plenty of excellent ADN nurses. However, I say that if you can, always go for the BSN. It puts you in a great position to get future jobs. I also think the quality of education is typically better (not always, and depends on the school). There is also a Big Picture element that you get with a BSN, that is often lacking in ADN programs. I think that gives you an important perspective.

If you're worried about grades, make sure to take advantage of school tutors! I tutor currently for my nursing school (at no cost to the students), and it is an AMAZING resource.

Anyways, just my two cents. Good luck with your decision! I totally recommend you go for it. Nursing an awesome career, and nursing school isn't as bad as people say it is. Work hard, have a good attitude, and you'll get through!
