ADN to BSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi, I'm currently a high school student, and I think nursing is a great option for me in the future.

I would like some help in understanding if you can get your ADN in a community college, and are there programs I can take in a cc, then get a BSN in nursing school after graduating from a cc. Also what pre-reqs do I have to take before getting into a nursing school?

Thanks!

There may be slight differences in prereqs across some programs but most prereqs are general chemistry, biology, human anatomy, human physiology, microbiology, all the science courses have associated labs with them, college algebra, English, psychology, speech, sociology.most programs require TEAS testing so that's a test you can take when you're almost done with all the prereqs. Prereqs can take about 2 years. you can take those prereqs at a cc. you want to double check all the programs you're interested in,some may require slight different requirements for example some may require you be a CNA before applying which I have seen before. After completing the 2 year adn or ASN program you can complete an online RN to BSN program or do the traditional in person RN to BSN program. A typical course that BSN programs require is statistics so you can take that while doing other prereqs. Try to get good grades in the prereqs and do well on the teas test. If you do really well in everything you can apply to a BSN program. And if you are interested you can try volunteering in the hospitals in your city get a feel of and see what nurses do on the floor. I highly suggest you taking summer courses if you are able to do so, that way it will help get your prereqs moving along and keep you busy too. Be aware that sometimes summer is a popular time when possibly a lot of people may take those science courses, so having a backup cc in your city is something to think about.
