ADN & BDN in relation to getting a Masters

Sorry guys I know this sounds repetitive, I appreciate being directed to all the prior ADN vs. BSN posts. The question I am posing to you now is, if you have an unrelated bachelors and go back for an ADN (the path I am leaning towards), does it hold you back from getting accepted to a nursing Masters degree program?? That may be a con on my list, I may sound like I am getting ahead of myself here.............but I definitely want grad school to be a possibility. I researched a few schools and some require a BSN. I am hoping it doesn't matter as long as you a an RN with a bachelor's even if it is in business (that is whay I have).

Thanks for any advice you may have. This board has been most helpful!

It is my understanding that if you have a bachelors in another field, and you go on to do the ADN, you have to check each individual program for their requirements. Here in Florida, they're now starting to change the rule - which used to be you HAD to have a BSN to get an MSN - to now that if you have an ADN and have a Bachelor's in something else, you can get 2 years experience and THEN go to the MSN program. But I've heard that in other states, some programs allow you to go from ADN to MSN. Like I said, it depends on the program.

Hope this helps.

Dawn's right...you'll have to check with the individual schools. Some don't mind that the bachelor degree isn't a BSN...others would prefer it. Some that do will have RN-MSN programs where you'll be able to get a BSN on the way through the program. Just depends on the school, really.

I just want to thank Kimmathis14 as I am in the same boat she is and was wondering the same thing. I just got accepted into the RN (ADN) Program at my local CC for Spring 04 and will graduate after Fall 05.

I planned to also go on and get my masters so I will check with the individual schools and see what happens.

Thanks for asking that question....
