Hey, my name is Alex. Im applying to Samuel Merritt's BSN program next year, I have mostly A's on all the prerequisites I've completed so far, im studying hard for my HESI, and I volunteer at Highland hospital. Ive heard rumors that volunteering isnt enough, and that I would need to be a medical assistant or a CNA. Also, I work at an orthodontic lab but I'm not sure if that even counts toward medical experience. Ive been working towards getting into this school for two years and it's so important to me. Has anyone been in the same situation as me (no medical experience except volunteering" and still gotten into Samuel Merritt's BSN program? Thanks!

You're over thinking it.
Its all about your grades, HESI, and $$$.
You have all 3, you are going to get in.
I personally have not been to Samuel Merritt, but I get a lot of students precepting from that school.
Keep studying hard for that HESI and you'll get in.
Best of luck!
To add,
My last nursing student graduated SJSU with a Bachelors in Child Development.
She found a job for 1 year, didn't like it, and decided to go to SMU for her BSN.
She didn't work in health care and got into the program in the first attempt.
She had the grades and the HESI score.

Yes, I got in on my first try at Sammy Merry without medical work experience. My work experience was in a completely different field that had nothing to do with medicine. Alot of people came in with bartending, waitressing, retail experience. It's important to have close to a 4.0 (3.7 and up seems to be the norm in my cohort) on the pre-reqs, a hesi score on the low 90s, and willingness to pay $$$$. The money is worth it for an extra year but we all have large student loans to pay off.
I received a "volunteer of the year"-type award and volunteered for extra hours beyond the 100 they recommend. It mostly helps in writing the short essays on the admission form. Use your volunteer coordinator as a reference if possible, too.
