Hi Everyone,
I am a FNP student and plan on doing my capstone on the topic of ADHD, I would appreciate any insights from those in practice as to how they handle this diagnosis, do they treat based on psychological testing or based on parent request, thanks in advance.

I have used the Vanderbilt testing forms but there are several others out there as well. No, you would never treat based on a parent's request. These forms are completed by parent or both if living in separate homes, teacher or teachers depending on grade level, they are brought into the office, scored by practitioner, thorough H&P, if child is old enough, please direct questions to them.
Also investigate the medications, side effects, dosing.

Connor's scale completed by parents, teachers, and others if appropriate. This is especially important as you can see some kids better manage their inattention/hyperactivity in one setting versus the others. This gives non-pharmacological options for treatment. ie. If the child is on task at school, but struggles at home they may really need a routine and frequent changes of activity, etc.
