Nurses General Nursing

Published

I'm a 48 y.o. nurse that was discovered to be ADHA about 10 months ago. Looking back on it, I can see how that state impacted my life - some negative and some positive. I've been taking Ritalin, which does seem to allow me to focus better chronologicaly and sequencialy. However, during a recent performance review, I was told that I seem to be easily frustrated and have a hard time multi-tasking. Since this is the first performance review I've ever had in my many years as a nurse (in no other job did admin, apparently, have time!), I explained that I likely appear more frustrated, stressed, whatever, that I really am and explained why. I should also add that all nurses are being performance-reviewed at this time, not just I.

However, I would like to hear from other ADD nurses (or non-ADD, for that matter) and hear what their experiences are. Does anybody else out their understand the frustrations of this brain-glitch?

hi,

I was wondering if there are any other ADHD Nurses out there that would care to share thier experiences about coping in the clinical setting with ADD.

I've been a Nurse for 16 years and find myself wondering if I've made a mistake in choosing nursing as my career now.

Although my heart is in nursing, I've been told by my clinical instructors that Im not focused enough, and the multi tasking does not come easy for me therefore the question was asked of me, why I choose to be in such a stressful occupation. When I could have choosen another occupation in much greater success.

Medication helps alittle, but is by far not a cure. I'd like to graduate and stay in the nursing field, maybe even do research nursing, but I dont know if I can get through the clinical part of nursing with out running into the same problems again.

I read the nurses comment's in the last posting, but that was posted a while ago.

If anyone can help with thier experiences or advice, please feel free to comment or PM me.

ty,

Mia
