  1. If our easily intimidated and easily manipulated, if you tend to give people the benifit of the doubt, if you are emotionally insecure, if you have low self esteem, if you have recently seperated form a spouse, BF, GF, etc., If you think you can flirt, share personal information or open up to an Inmate, Then, I would say this to you, with due respect, But, , Be Aware that I have seen more nurses, experienced Nurse, RNs & LPNs Walked out of the Building by Custody for something called, "Un due familiarity" Some of these Nurses, are awaiting court, and have pending felony charges against them now! Because, they were manipulated by an INMATE! Confidence is good, just know that better people than you or I have been manipulated by someone. Keep in mind, an inmate has nothing but time on there hands to figure out where your weak spots are and they will use every bit they can to get you to let down your guard! No joke! you have to keep ur mind on business, the task at hand at all times.... Espeacily, in Med Custody, because they are more than likly going to be released sooner than later. The Men in Closed custody seem less manipulative! good luck though! Nurse
  2. I have a question about the company? Do they pay you for the 3 weeks while in training? How often is the training offered, how many nurses were in your training class? thanks in advance!!!!
  3. your a real joy to be around arent you!!!!
  4. my late response!!!! yes well! it may be a humbling experience for some, however, if you get an instructor that dosent see mistakes as a learning experience, or tool, etc., and you have one that would rather use you as an example for the rest of the class!! lets just say....my rn instructor was a nightmare from "hell" i dont think the criptkeeper had anything on her! on the other hand, my lpn instructor's were a blessing in so many ways! i cant say enough about my lpn nursing instrutors!! it was like night & day! needless to say, i had a horrible experience in my rn program. no, i did not graduate from that college either! your instructors may not be the problem, im just saying that mine definatly were!!! so, long story short------> dont give up on yourself, even if someone else does! and if you have a bad instuctor! by all means!! go somewhere else! you should'nt have to put up with an invironment you cant feel comfortable in to learn. or such uncaring, inpatient instuctors! esp. if your paying {big time} bucks for an education! ~:typing:typing~good luck~ ~:typing:typing ~good luck~
  5. 1st off, thank you so much for your honest sharing and what i'd call a rather hard lesson to learm as a new nurse & new graduate nurse, i might add. i cant even begin to pretend to have an easy answer or advice as to what you might do now. like you were saying, no one was harmed and i feel you can be proud of all your accomplishments & also your un reliquishing efforts to make that job work for you. remember we are all human & if a nurse ever tells you he or she has never made any mistakes as a nurse, ha,ha just know one thing, (they are lying through thier teeth)----big time!!! my suggestion, is to pick yourself up, dust your self off & get back on that horse! so to speak! also, it might be a good idea to take an honest look at what part you played in the whole spectrum of things. in other words, do a self inventory. not so much to beat yourself up. but to just make sure you have your eyes wide open. it sounds like, from what you wrote, you made some really honest mistakes that really any and all of us make. perhaps this particular place, might not be a place where you'd want to work any way! not exactly a teaching hospital is it! think about what doors might be open now! hope i didnt over simplify what your are going through or went through. just know your not alone and that there are nurses out there, who are more than willing to extend some support. not every nurse, mind you!!! but the really good ones, the ones that you'd want to work with & work for are worth seeking out. and think about what kind of person would you really want to work for any way? dont worry about job security. if you have a nursing license, you will always hav job security! ~ good luck to you~ lin
  6. ~first off~ Thank you guys/gals so much for all the responses about TB and how it affects you and your facility, etc., Id like to think that all facilitys take TB seriously. why wouldnt they? I do however know that having had friends that work in corrections, etc., that it is not always taken seriously. IT IS SCARY TO THINK OF A HUGE facility with over 700 inmates and over 300 full time staff, employee's, etc., not taking it seriously! Is there one or two designated individuals assigned to monitor the inmates and incoming for TB? FOR example, like an infectious disease nurse? thanks to all, romiia ~MIA~
  7. Well congrads to those nurses anyway for standing up to the State! I have a very close friend that worked as a correctional officer..and she delt with similar behavior from the inmates! She was harrassed on a daily basis! And eventully had to get out of it . After 2 1/2 years her life was threatened, and she was hit in the face by an inmate, granted this was a close custody prison! the main thing is , the State will not, would not back her up!!! no way, no how! this is a great topic!!
  8. i've been an lpn for 17 years:: & will be excepting a 13 week assignment this month as a correctional nurse, ~1st time~:uhoh21: but ive always been curious about this any way? how is tb contained in a correctioinal facility? how is it kept in check amoung the inmate population? do these inmates get transferred out some where? has it been a problem? has any correctional nurse tested positive (+) since being employed @ a facility? your replys are greatly appreciated!!! thanks so much, mia
  9. JUST WANTED TO WARN EVERYONE THINKING ABOUT GOING TO WORK FOR OUTCOMES,INC THEY ARE VERY, VERY SLOW IN GETTING YOU PAID!!! THEY USE EXCUSES LIKE "we are just backed up, etc with charts" :angryfire ~what ever~:angryfire
  10. IS ANYONE DOING HEDIS in North Carolina this year?? Does any one know of the individual insuarnce companys that do thier own hiring for Hedis Nurses???? Or are there any?? be care ful with outcomes, they may promise you steady work in the beginning of the hedis season, but depending on where you live, you may be out of work fairly sooner than later!! even though its not a permanent position thye should be able to give you some idea of how much work is available in your area!! ~i advise asking lots of specific questions~ and if thier answer dosent make sense then, rephrase it in laymen's terms!! I also advise, if they are doing your scheduling for you, that you call the providers/ doctors office before leaving home to confirm your appt. "the right day & right time, etc.,"
  11. hello all, does any one have any info concerning the add act?? i think i might have been discriminated against in nursing school!! thanks for you help in advance!! linda you can pm me.
  12. hi yvonne, i am on nc 1 and will register with excelsior after i test for nc1, i hope to be ready by the end of january, this year!! i will give you my email address if you can send me a priv.mesg. from this site! let me know where your at with your studies, maybe we can connect & compare, exchange notes, etc., that would be great! thanks, lin
  13. hello to alll! i am not sure how this works, as far as getting people together to study for the various nc exams, etc., with excelsior. i am on nc1 now & need a study partner, and/or partners, so if any one out there wants to email me directly we can exchange phone #'s and make a plan like that. i am a lpn in north carolina but have free long distance. it would be nice to find some one in the same state but, that is not absolutly a must! so please, get in touch with me if you are interested! thanks, lin

Yes, of course there are alot other ways of dealing with ADHD. If fact I think a combination of medication & therapy works really well for some people. I get so disgusted with Docs sometimes just prescribing medication with no other advice or follow- up. You can try behavioral modifications with a therapist. It really helps to keep a journal and a sched. planner book for me.
