Additional Classes

Published

Hi,

Any current or previous JJC students take other additional classes during the program? I was recently accepted to start in the fall but currently enrolled in classes needed for my BSN. I have been throwing around the idea of dropping Math128 because of overwhelming home issues. There is only a month left and my grade has dropped from an A to a low B with 3 units left. I already put most of my time into this class, (my fault, i thought I'd be able to handle an online class) but I can not focus on the online class with 3 other classes and my daughters medical issues. (hoping treatment works so there is no distractions when i start the program). I really want to know if it is possible during the regular school year while taking the nursing courses to take an additional course? I'm assuming the 1st semester will be hardest so I'm not expecting to take it then. I am trying to avoid summer school because it is not as flexible. Any input would be great, as i only have till the 24th to drop

(side note, I am done with all my pre-reqs so the only classes so no other classes are needed for the JJC program)

thanks

where is jjc and what is math 128?

ask the mods to move this thread to the "colleges" area and you might find someone there who knows what you are asking.

Stumbled upon your post and thought I might be able to help. Current JJC student, 2nd semester (Joliet Junior College?) Congrats on your acceptance. Regarding your question.... my honest advice is just finish the class now if you think you can possibly do it. The only reason I say this is because I personally would not take anything additional during the program. Although it looks very "Doable" on paper, there is a lot more than what you see. You will be spending an exorbitant amount of time on reading/studying and there are skills that you will need to practice as well as ATI tests that you take on your own time. In addition there are a couple of inservices you will be responsible for. Not sure what math 128 is (stats?) but I would either take it now or let it rest a while until you see how it goes. I don't want to discourage you, I think it is great that you are thinking ahead, but if I were you I would try to enjoy the summer with your family and prepare for fall this rather than taking an additional class. If you must take it while in the program I would actually advise 1st semester over 2nd, only because it gets harder as you go. I think most students would tell you the same. It's not that you can't handle it, it's just that you sacrifice a lot of time away from family as it is and if your daughter has some things going on it will make you that much more stressed. What I would do this summer is.... 1. Enjoy your time with your kids. 2. Prepare meals that you can freeze. 3. Stock up on those everyday items that you are always running out of. 3. Designate an area in your home that is just school stuff. 4. If you really can't keep your nose out of the books, I would memorize lab values, don't worry about what it means, you will learn it, but just start writing them out until you can recite them like the alphabet. I have found this to be the most difficult thing to keep straight, and it comes up again and again, just start with the basics CBC/Differential, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium etc.

Hope this helps, Good luck to you!!!
