I am taking care of someone who is at the end stage of APL. I don't have a lot of experience with the cancers, and am wondering what symptoms will present and best management.

we did have a pt w/apl, a subset of aml.

not my pt, but if i remember correctly, coagulapathy was the most pervasive symptom.

he ended up with what the doc said was dic, and he bled out.

i would focus on the overall symptomology of aml...

namely profound anemias, infection, potential for hemorrhage.

That is what i was expecting, however he was on chemo up until last thurs. which was causing his blood to clot. he was also on a heparin drip which was dc'd sat. I think he had a stroke today, so I don't really know what to expect. I am just going with symptom management, and learning as I go. Thanks for your thoughts!:)
