Acute hemodialysis rn pay rate in texas

Hi everyone,

i am acute HD nurse in California. I am considering moving to Houston, TX and would like to know what is the pay rate for acute dialysis nurses in Houston nowadays. In California, you get straight pay for the first 8 hours, then time and a half for the next 4 hours and everything above 12 hours per shift is double time ( i work for DAVITA ). I wonder if the same rules apply in Texas and what is realistic expectation for base pay for a nurse with 2 year HD experience. Also, would like to know how long is a typical shift for acute HD RN.

I do not know anybody from Texas and would appreciate advice from anyone who knows first hand this area of nursing in Texas.

I worked in both California and Texas as a travel acute HD nurse. Texas does not pay the time and a half after 8 hours or 12 hours. Only time and a half after 40 hours in one week. I worked in San Antonio, and pay was pretty low. I talked to some people who have worked in Houston as Acute dialysis nurses and the pay seems better, but cost of living is also a lot higher in Houston, as compared with San Antonio. I would say you could prob shoot for $30/hour with your experience, but I would not expect anywhere near California pay. For Houston, that could be pretty good, but again, the time and a half rates won't be there, so overall, the annual salary will probably be a lot less.

Try looking on that website that uses the city compared to salary calculator. Then you will be able to accurately compare if you will be able to save more, less, or the same, based on cost of living and hourly rate.
