Ok, I've been accepted to ACNP school. For ACNP's, are you hired by the hospital usually or by the physician that you're practicing under or could it be either. I'm looking at possibly a trauma specialty/ED interest...but again, haven't even started school yet so...Appreciate any comments!

I've seen in both ways. I personally work for the hospital. Of the other 10 other grads from my batch in my ACNP program, 3 ended up being employed by a private Cardiology practice, 3 ended up being employed by an Emergency Physician group that provides staffing for ED's, the other 4 ended up being employed by a hospital working in ICU, Oncology, and Transplant Surgery.

The NP and PA in our ICU is an employee of a physician group that runs our ICUs. She has her own assignments, and does just about everything the residents can do, ie intubate, lines, pulls CTs etc...,
The PA is there on MN, to help out the resident that is there. Thank God bc the residents were not answering their pages...it was a real problem.
Oh, our Neuro NPs are hired by the neuro physician group, cardiology PA by the cardiologist...our surgical PAs are hired by the hospital...hope this helps!
Thanks guys!
