Hello everyone!

I am curious, what are your lives like working as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner?

When you wake up in the morning and head to work, what is the first thing you do when you step inside those hospital doors? (If you work inpatient)

What do you do? Do you have fun? (Fun as in, manual labor, such as but not limited to, placing central lines, chest tubes, intubation, suturing)

Are any of you ACNPs RNFAs/AORNs?

What are your patient populations?

How do you end your day?

Are you happy with the decision you have made to become an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner?

Umm take the elevator to the floor where our office is. Put on white coat (when I feel like it), grab stethoscope, and get sign out from the overnight NP or resident.

What do you do? Do you have fun? (Fun as in, manual labor, such as but not limited to, placing central lines, chest tubes, intubation, suturing)

I think I've discussed this extensively in other posts. It's busy, can be stressful at times, rewarding yet frustrating at other times, dynamic with never ending opportunities for learning, and fun.

What are your patient populations?

Adult Medical ICU (ARDS, septic shock, GI bleeds, DKA, overdoses, CRRT, etc.), Critical Care Malignant Heme (blast crisis, sick stem cell transplants, tumor lysis and other Onc emergencies), Surgical ICU (solid organ transplants, acute care surgery), Cardiac ICU (cardiogenic shock, open hearts, heart/lung transplants, mechanical circulatory devices), and Neuro ICU (head bleeds, tumors, strokes, seizures, neuromuscular disorders). The entire adult ICU NP team members rotate to all those ICU's regularly.

How do you end your day?

By signing out my patients to the next NP or resident coming in for the shift.
