accreditation NLNAC/CCNE

Published

Hello i had a few question about different nursing schools. I was looking at schools to apply and was confused about different accreditation. There are a few schools that both have NLNAC and CCNE accreditation and some schools that have either NLNAC or CCNE. And the school also states that it was accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. Can you please explain because i am planning to apply soon and want to choose the right school for me.

Thank you in advance

Nursing accreditation is the accreditation that really matters in nursing. As you've seen, the two nursing organizations that accredit schools of nursing are the NLNAC (National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission) and CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education). The NLNAC accredits diploma, ADN, and BSN programs (only). The CCNE accredits BSN and graduate programs in nursing (only). So, if you are looking at diploma or ADN programs, NLNAC accreditation is what you're looking for. BSN programs can have either NLNAC or CCNE accreditation, or both -- however, either one is sufficient by itself.

The HLC accreditation is the general academic accreditation and is also good to have.

Best wishes for your nursing school journey!

Thank your for the information!! I think that it will help me narrow my choices down!!:D
