Hello everybody,
Background: I got kicked out of the Galveston College RN program in the past because I failed Med Surg. So this is a lifeline and my second chance and I cannot risk anything this time around.
I live close to Pearland (near Houston, TX) and I'm used to driving almost an hour each way to school. I found out today that I've been accepted to the LVN Program at both San Jacinto Community College and College of the Mainland. I don't know much about either school besides the fact that they are both supposed to be good. The only easy comparison I have is that San Jac is 10 minutes from my home and College of the Mainland is about 40 minutes from home. Like I said I don't mind the drive if I go to a better school and have a better chance of passing the program and the Boards.
Galveston College was horrible when it comes to getting help and the teachers didn't care. Several of them went as far as saying that they are there to get their paychecks and they don't care if the students do well or not. Even the 1st year coordinator who gets paid full time is rarely on campus because she spends more time at her dog training business. I don't want this situation again. I understand that I have to do my share, but I expect the school where I pay good money to do their share as well. This time I really want to be in a setting where the teachers actually about teaching, the staff care about the students and don't get all dramatic when somebody needs help or clarification.
Please help me decide and share what you know about the schools:)

I'm at SJC.
Idk about their LVN program.
I'm a senior RN student....
I personally love San Jac Central. However you'll have different profs for VN school of which I don't know much about.

Ive heard good things about college of the mainlands lvn program. A couple of my friends went to school down there. They said the instructors are friendly and want you to learn. 98% of her class passed nclex.
Thanks guys:)
I'm not really worried about the passing rate anymore. Because of the dirty trick that GC used to keep their passing rates high. We started our batch with 75 students, by the end of the 1st semester it was down to 24 students. Then by the time 2nd semester they did all they can to kick out as many people as they could and were left with 14 students. And what they do is they get the students that finished their lvn program going into the "LVN to RN transition" program and put them with the 14 RN students, which got them back to about 30 or 35 students that was going into the 3rd semester. And god knows how many of those RN students are actually going to graduate and pass their NCLEX. So in the end when all these students graduate, the school still ends up with a pretty high pass rate. So I would like to know the student completion ratio(how many students started and how many actually passed) rather than the passing rate.
