:monkeydance: i can hardly believe it. i was awarded at seat with murray state's new site in morehead, ky. i highly encourage adding murray to your application list-they were terrific. very warm, supportive and unlike the other two sites that i interviewed at-they weren't there to intimidate. st. claire's is a very supportive sight-one of their or nurses came in from vacation just to take us through the hospital-she spent the entire time with us.....hat's off to murray for making the interview process what it should be.

congrats sherry! does this mean you are not interviewing at wolford? or are you still going and then deciding between the two if you get in to both?

i am very happy for you! so cool. it sounds like you like this kentucky school. is it a brand new program? do you have any concerns that a new school will run into any glitches? what did they say about clinical sites?

That is correct, I emailed them yesterday and cancelled my interview. The cost of living is 1/3 of the cost of Naples. It is not a brand new program, Murray has been a CRNA site for years. They just added the remote site this fall. I like the fact that they only have 12 students at the primary and there are only 4 of us at St. Claire. We will utilize the St. Claire hospital for our first clinicals and then use Kosairs/UofL for the peds/trauma-the same sites as the primary class. I really like the fact that their does not seem to be ANY age discrimination. They ask you personal questions vs. regurg the material you have memorized for clinical questions (not to take away from those stressful clinical scenarios). I just really like the fact that they evaulate the student personality-esp. since they will be providing the instruction/education that will be needed to become a proficient student ready for boards. They have a higher than national mean on intubations and you start doing clinicals the first semester. Did you interview at OHSU yet???

Congratulations! I'm sure it feels good to have it all sewn up and decided. But I was looking forward to meeting you at Wolford this Fall.

I interview at OHSU this Monday but I have some reservations. The school's tuition is around 70,000 for the program. That's twice as much as other programs. It's a brand new program and I am worried that the clinical sites will not be used to SRNAs. Maybe there will be some glitches. I would be closer to home but the cost of living is high. You can buy a lot of plane tickets and a nicer apartment for 35,000, even if it is in Naples.

Regardless, I will probably go and interview anyway. I already have the plane ticket bought.

Yes, it is nice knowing you have a home. Wow, that is a heap big difference in the costs. How do they rate it at that costs? We are still flying to Florida and vacationing now that the immediate pressure is off. Now I am searching the list for all the good loan data. Started filling out that paperwork this morning-man, it is bad enough filling out applications-the loan paperwork is awesome.....guess I have to b---ch about something....

i was going to apply there for this year, but they told me i had to have physics completed. i was thinking i could take it this summer and have it done before classes but they said that was a no go. if naples doesn't work out for me, i'll definately apply there next year! congrats to you sherry62!!! i can only imagine the relief of getting in!

I hated to cancel my interview at naples, but decided to forego the interview since I was happy with the Murray offer. Good luck with the Naples interview. I think that their interview is very similar to Murrays-at least from the perspective that they both have the same amount of time alloted.

Sherry62,

I interviewed at OHSU last Monday and it was a mixed bag. I went in to it impressed by the reputation that OHSU has esp. as regards the graduate nursing department. But with this being a brand new program, I ran into a few glitches.

The guy that was supposed to greet me had quit the week before and no one called to redirect me to anyone else. They lost or never received my GRE score even though I know I sent it to the code they provided. The parking spaces they promised didn't materialize, or I never found them even though I circled the lot several times.

The interview was good. I liked everyone there except one of the interviewers who wouldn't look at me and yawned halfway through the interview. Otherwise, they were very respectful. The questions were focused on strengths and weaknesses in several areas; school work, clinical, and prep for grad school.

All this would not disuade me if I could be sure that they will have all the clinicals lined up and operational. I got the sense that they were still working on it. Couple that with the steep tuition and high cost of living in Portland and I am starting to really question whether OHSU is right for me.

My husband and I fly out today for Florida. Wish me luck!

I hope all goes well for you. I truly believe that all happens for a reason and you will find the right program for you....Florida was great. We just returned today and the weather was absolutely fantastic. Must say, the beaches would have been fun...Let me know how it goes..
