Hi there,
Thought I would start a Columbia thread for all of us who were eagerly waiting for that acceptance letter in the mail last week. Guess you can call this the meet-n-greet and maybe wear like a sticker with our screen names so we can recognize each other during the Visiting Day (ok, might look a bit goofy) but hey, what a way to start off our nursing careers together at Columbia.
I was estactic when i opened that letter, seemed like a thin envelope and was prepared for the worst, and then read the first line! I can't wait and indeed it was a life changing letter for both me and my wife, who also got accepted!! I also got into my first choice of specialty, Nurse Anesthesia, and getting into that program without ICU experience (besides being a nursing assistant in the ER and neurosurg unit as an undergrad) is just simply overwhelming. It took the whole weekend to sink in, and now, I'm psyched! I look forward to meeting all of you and enduring the next 12 months of craziness starting in June together.
See you on Visiting Day!! :balloons:
Best,
Charlie
Well... they're here...
The upside is, if you ever need an alcoholic beverage, go up to the roof and there's sure to be some. And maybe a DJ. But that was only a couple of times.
By the way, I don't know your gender, but there are 2 male dental students who just hang out on the roof and birddog all the new girls. Just beware of that.
[color=gray]"i can't fathom that an msn would be worth anything near this kind of money. "rn (with or without bsn) = at least $40,000 in my area.
msn (cnm or similar) = at least $75,000 in my area.
i see the difference. i don't condone the price of these programs at all, but i 100% believe that an msn is worth the price one pays for it. if you use an educational loan/debt calculator, the debt one accumulates from the program does not exceed the recommended amount of school debt for the starting salary. (ie; you make enough to pay it back without strain)
for me...
suny 15 month bsn - approx. $10,000
currently attending suny fnp - approx. $14,000 total
$24,000 for a bsn/rn and msn/fnp is more appealing to me than $115,000 quoted above... funny thing is when i first applied for the bsn, i got accepted to nyu and suny. it was a choice of $70,000 or $10,00 tuition. guess which one i chose?!

Um, the title of this thread is accepted Columbia University ETP students. The poster you quoted didn't understand that either.
I think it's great that you are happy with your education and the cost you incurred but quite frankly it's silly that people keep posting how much of a "rip off" my education is on a thread that is comprised of all students from my school.

For real, Laura. Whatevs.
Hey, btw, I got called for an interview at NYP today. So that makes just over a week since I turned in my stuff. I'm going in next Monday - I'll let you know how it goes. Oh, and they finally posted some NICU jobs, so you can totally have the PICU job I applied for.

Good luck with the interview!! My references are supposed to give me their letters by friday this week. It's been really boring just sitting on my hands waiting (esp since it feels as if everyone is in class or studying for the NCLEX or both). Although, I have gotten to explore more than usual. And the movie thing at bryant park last night was way fun.
Hi everyone! I'm GretchenH, and for some reason my account got all confuzzed for the last few months. How is everyone doing in their first round of clinicals? I'm in Community rotation right now at the Denny Farrell Community Clinic. Where are all of you placed? Aren't you glad the summer is over? =)
Hmmm. I'm sorry, but someone just quoted me in a response...and then it was reiterated that this was a forum for accepted ETP people...just in case someone got confused...I AM/WAS an accepted student and my post was in DEFENSE of the program. Although accepted, I chose another school, equally ivy, less expensive and I am 100% in support of my school and Columbia.
So, I *did* understand what this post was for.
Just clearing that up.
Hi Lovingpecola! How is Yale? Are you still in the midwifery program? Are you enjoying it? Have you started clinical rounds in OB? Congrats on being in your program! I hadn't heard from you in a while, which is my own fault because I couldn't figure out how to log in.. So tell me how your program is! I'm still in Women's Health, but I'm considering adding another with it. Apparantly if you're in Women's Health, you're done with half the classes for Adult NP, obviously! So a dual in Women's Health and Adult is a good fit, only takes another semester or so to complete. So I'm still on the fence about which NP to go through. I hope all is well in school. Yale is in New Haven, right? That's where Krystellmarie is from. Charlie's stepdad owns a chinese restaurant downtown, which you should definitely try. I've been there a few times and I love the food!
Plus you guys have Bruegger's bagels there, so I'm mucho jealous! I hope to hear from you soon!
