Accelerated second degree BSN programs in Michigan?

I am in my 3rd semester at Oakland ASDN program. It has been a great experience so far. At times hectic and busy, but always doable. The ASDN program is very fast paced and you will need to make sure to stay on top of all the work.

With your GPA and experience, you shouldn't have a problem getting into an ASDN program, assuming you have taken all the required prereq.'s which differ between schools.

At Oakland, if you are accepted they require that you take several classes at Oakland, prior to starting the program.

1st semester breakdown - meds, fundementals, learn clinical skills & assessment, med-surg + clinicals

2nd semester breakdown - continue med-surg, peds, OB + clinicals

3rd semester breakdown - NCLEX prep, community nursing, mental health + clinical & preceptorship

In all three semesters you will be tested on and expected to know your meds including medication calculation & administration, passing ATI practice tests and writing nursing care plans

Hi Haider08, thanks for the response! It's actually funny, I spoke to an OU ABSN advisor a few months ago and she informed me that I may want to consider retaking an intro biology class I got a B in... even though it was molecular & cellular biology... Even then, she said the earliest I could begin at OU would be sometime in 2017 because they are loaded up! I think OU has a great program but I'm looking to get in somewhere sooner than that, fingers crossed! I'll probably still apply though :)

Thank you for the breakdown of what each semester holds! That's some really good insight, how long is OU's program in total? Can't remember if it was along the lines of 12 or 15 months

Hi SopranoKris!! MSU is actually one of the top choices I've been looking into! I just need to find a school where I can take pharmacology and pathophysiology... They won't accept my school's version of them :/ good luck on your future endeavors

I'll be doing my RN-to-BSN at MSU in the Fall :)

I applied to MSU for May 2015 start and OU's program which is the January 2016 start. I should find out hopefully tomorrow or tuesday with MSU. OU said decisions would be out by mid-late feb. I had to retake a class for oaklands pre-reqs because I had a B too. I didn't want to chance it!

Thank you! I was accepted into OU and was placed on the waitlist at MSU. SO far I haven't heard back from state and they won't tell where you are at on the waitlist so I'm thinking OU. I did accept my spot w a deposit there !
