Accelerated Programs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am very interested in becoming a RN and I have been looking at school. I have seen some school that offer an accelerated program, for example 15 month program for a BSN. Are these program a good idea? I really like the idea of these kinds of program but I worry about the spend of the programs and the quality. Any Advice? Thanks

In my case, the college looked much more closely at the prerequisites I had taken in the previous few months than they did at my first Bachelor's courses from years back. My first Bachelors GPA is 3.2. My prerequisites GPA is 4.0. I was accepted and I graduated this year.

Your best bet is to speak directly with those in the know at your prospective school to see how they score the game.

That is really helpful, I appreciate your response and will definitely take your advice!

I am planning to apply to the University of Rochester Direct AMPNN program for Fall 2011. How did you like the school and the program that you were in? I have a bachelors in Public Health and a 3.0 GPA, I really hope I have a chance to get in somewhere! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I will be starting the AMPNN (Psych/Mental Health) @ Rochester in January 2011! I went to Rochester as an undergraduate and loved loved loved my experience. The campus is gorgeous and most of the professors are great teachers (not just research droids that hate the fact they have to teach for their tenured faculty positions). The only bad things about the school is the winter weather and ridiculous cost of attendence (+$77K for the first year). Anyway, I am extremely happy to be going back to campus.

Background: BA - Health and Society (@Rochester w/ 3.1 GPA overall and 3.59 in Pre-req courses), 8 years of HR experience - Counseling, Employee Development, and E/L Relations @ Fortune 500 companies. I also have hospice care experience. Hope to see some of you guy on campus at some point in time!

Also HugaNurse87, what do you plan to specialize in?

Hi, thank you so much for your response. That sounds great and I'm happy to hear that you enjoy the school. The intense winters are scaring me but being from Boston I should be able to handle it, right?!

I'm on the fence between FNP/ANP but I'm leaning more toward FNP, I've been exploring the options and that one seems to be the best fit for me.

ok, the only difference between Boston and Rochester is the aamount of snow! Rochester gets clobbered by tons of snow usually. So bring good boots and heavy duty snow tires! lol

That's terrifying!

yeah, the weather is something you'll never get use to! but again, u of r is an excellent school and their nursing program is one of the best in the country!

Hi MentalhealthRN. I am currently a student in a Master's in Mental Health Counseling program and am looking to get my ARNP following graduation. My Bachelor's degree is in Psychology, and I have no nursing school experience. I have been researching accelerated MSN programs, but am not quite sure that I'm looking in the right direction. You seem to have gone down the path similar to what I am trying to do, so any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much!
