Hi everyone! I am new to this allnurses website and I was wondering if anyone can offer me some helpful advice for accelerated nursing programs! I am graduating early this December with a bachelors in psychology and have decided my calling in life is nursing. I am currently swamped and overwhelmed with research, figuring out the pre reqs I still need, where to get them, loans, worrying about gettin in, etc etc. does anyone have any advice or books they know of that can offer guide lines
Or check lists?? Thank you!

Do you know what school you are aiming to get into? I was in the same exact boat as you and I know how you are feeling. Once you get accepted though, the school often will help you out. However, I had to take out private loans because I didn't qualify for federal. I recommend local credit unions for private loans since they often have a lower interest rate.
This website helped me find what university I wanted and would be the best fit. I just researched a ton of different schools from this site. I recommend it if you haven't seen it yet. American Association of Colleges of Nursing | Accelerated Programs: The Fast Track to Careers in Nursing
Good luck to you! I am so happy with my decision to do my program so I wish you the best!
Thank you so much for advice/website! Helps a lot! I figured I would need to take our private loans. I'm just nervous because I want to start program no later than next fall.. And I'm worried no one will accept me with pre reqs still in the process... That's my main concern.

i applied to my program while my pre-reqs were in the process, but they didn't accept anyone until pretty much RIGHT before the program started. most people are in the same boat of needing to complete pre-reqs too. the school knows this and they aren't going to waste their time accepting people and doing paperwork when half the people will fail a class or simply change their minds by the time the program starts.
the first thing i did when considering the program was call the school and speak to the 2nd degree nursing advisor. i told her my plan. she reviewed my transcript, told me exactly which classes i needed, etc. i just wanted to double check everything with the actual program's advisor so that i didn't do something stupid like take a class at a school where they didn't accept a transfer from and then get set back another year.
if i were you, i would call and speak to the nursing advisor to set up a meeting, take in your transcript, etc. also, find out what the average entry GPA is. with the economy being the way it has been for the past several years, the GPA for my program and the classes following mine were absurdly high and literally record breaking. that's the first thing my advisor looked at because she could guarantee anyone with below a 3.7 wouldn't get in....while she couldn't guarantee that someone with a 3.8 WOULD get in. good luck!

Most will state on their requirements on their website how they feel about outstanding pre-reqs. Some say a certain number have to be completed before you can even apply, some don't care as long as they're all completed by the time you start. It's really dependent on the school.
