Academic Review Board @ ECPI?

Published

My cousin was killed last term, missing school and dealing with this situation caused me to fail both classes I was taking. I attend ECPI at the Charlotte campus and was told that I have to request an ARB (academic review board) and have it accepted before I can return to school, because two failures is supposed to be a dismissal. My question is - has anyone had to have an ARB before? How did it go? How likely am I to be accepted back into the program for next term?

Why didn't you just drop the classes instead of continuing on considering your circumstances? It just seems silly to use the death as an excuse after the fact. Now if if you dropped the classes but they count them as a fail, then that I understand, and yes I have dealt with death while in school and quite more but I either dropped classes or took the fail for what it was.

Good luck to you though, not trying to be the bad guy, just trying to get understanding.

It actually never occured to me to drop the classes. I was still trying to do my best in my classes, but it wasn't as easy as I thought it'd be. There's an investigation and a lot of unanswered questions surrounding his death and it was a lot more stressful than I guess I assumed it'd be. I'm not wanting to appeal the fact that I failed, my question was about how ARB's work.

I see. Well good luck with getting reinstated. Sorry about your cousin and your situation. I wish you much success in your nursing career.
