I think being able to think in the abstract is an advantage -- not a disadvantage. Just remember that part of truly understanding an abstract principle is the ability to see how it can be applied in a real-life situation. As you read and learn, keep asking yourself questions such as, "What would a real-life example of this be?" "How would I apply this principle in real life?"
Don't "borrow trouble" as the old saying goes. You are worrying about something that might not even be a problem for you. You'll drive yourself crazy if you take on every possible problem as your own even though you have not actually experienced it.
Take a deep breath and relax. There will be enough challenges to meet without worrying about ones that haven't actually happened.
Good luck

Hello,
I will be starting Long Island University nursing program in the fall of 2014. I am so frightened due to the testimonials I've heard and read. I'm also frightened because I've been told more than twice how abstract i think. Please does anyone have an idea or a basis to how to start thinking critically especially for the purpose of nursing because i do not want a C+ at all and i do not want to be dismissed from the program.
Thanks
