:no:Hi everyone...
I am totally CORNFUSED!! I have been studying math till my brains are numb.
I bought the NET study guide from Education Resources, Inc. I also bought the online version for 15 bucks. What I can't believe is how much more difficult the online version is compared to the book version. I also took a free practice test on a website that is called pre-review. It's a company that does nothing but do study books for all kinds of entrance tests. Theirs, I could handle. I got stuck on so many problems on the NET online version, my lowest score was a 48 and my highest was a 58. The lowest was the SECOND time I took it!! I am definately no math wiz, but there is no way I'm going to beat the time with the length and intensity of some of these very drawn out division/fraction problems. The book is more simple, straight forward. My question to anybody who has already taken NET, is #1...did you do the online and book test?
#2...what is the NET more closely linked to??
book or online?
I"ve also got a study guide coming from the same company that had the free practice test online.
I'm tearing my hair out as I have GOT to take the NET this spring quarter.
HELP!!!

I took the NET twice and thought that the tests in the ERI study guide was very similar to the real test. The math was not that difficult, and if you can do well on the practice tests in book, you'll do fine.
Here's another test to practice on - http://www.testprepreview.com/net_math_practice.htm
Good luck!!!
Thanks! I am much older than the average nursing student as I have been a surg tech for almost 10 years. I'm going back as I have half my kids through college at this point and I think I can handle it this time. ( I was originally in nursing school before going to tech program).
The testpreview.com is where I ordered my other study guide from. I want to cover all the bases, but some of the levels of difficulty are very different. But if you think it comes really close to the book, that makes me feel better.
Thank you for your feedback!
Susan
I'm an more "mature" student too!! I have 2 kids and both are in college. Now that they are grown I want to do something different so I'm going back for my nursing degree. I got into an ABSN program and am very nervous about the intense workload. There are quite a few older students with teenage kids. Since you have surgical tech experience you probably have a leg up on most of us.
As for the NET math - there were a fractions, decimal, percentage, a few simple find "x" questions, and addition/subtraction/multiplication/division. I can't remember if there were any a find "x" and "y" questions. If there were, they were very simple ones. Nothing was complex and all questions were pretty straight forward.
I'm sure you'll do great!! I actually thought the science comprehension was harder and a little trickier. I didn't study before taking the 1st test and wish that I had review the comprehension material.
Another thing . . . they are sections in the test that don't count towards your comprehensive score, and therefore it doesn't matter what you get in those sections. They only sections that matter are the math and comprehension. These 2 sections were at the beginning of the test. We were allowed to go back to previous sections if we finished the current section earlier. So, I wizzed through the other sections just so I could spend more time on the comprehension section. I'm not sure if all the NET tests allow you to go back to previous sections, but if so be sure take advantage of it.
Wow . . . did I have a lot of typos in my previous post!!

Hey, don't stress too much. I was a wreck before taking the NET because I had no idea what to expect. When I showed up, I thought it was supposed to be on the computer, but it was on paper instead. We had science on it (it was one of the sections that didn't count, but you still have to pass it to pass the entire test) and I had no idea science was a part of it. The math was really easy and the reading comp was slightly more difficult. I got caught up on several questions because more than one answer seemed to apply. But I suck at reading comp so that may just be my experience. I took mine at Samuel Merritt, every testing site is different. I had plenty of time to go back to the sections and I triple checked my work. Just don't rush and use scratch paper. I did pretty well and I'm not a good test taker. I read the practice ER book and I looked over their test taking tips. I liked them and it worked. I studied for several months, but very on and off. Maybe an hour a week :) Sorry for running on, just power through the test and focus. Don't psych yourself out, and you definitely have the tools to do the math, if you don't like fractions, then practice them the most, etc. The more practice tests you do, the better you are off and also re-do some of the tests, i did and i still kept getting stuck on similar questions which showed me that i had to practice that stuff more. i hope this helps :)
This does help, thank you very much!!!
I really suck at math. The anxiety is very high because of a history of it being the subject at school that my parents always had to have the conferences about. I was always in the slowest math group, and I have no short term memory with it. Like, if I come back to it after mastering a certain subset of problems, it looks foreign to me all over again. I just can't keep the rules in my head at all. I've always been that way!! I'm great at reading, however, I don't always choose the best answer for the practice tests either. ..so I'm screwed either way.
I'm hoping some "helps" i've sent for will make the lightbulb go off!!
Thanks again!

hi, first of all stop saying you suck at math. Second, get one of your kids or someone who is a math whiz and sit down with them this weekend and go over EVERY math problem. This is what I did with my math whiz mother... she went over ever problem with me (she's 62 and LOVES math) I did the online neT test for $15 and scored 53 on Friday, got the book on Saturday from the library, scored 68 on Saturday, and scorced 88 on Sunday. Well monday was the test, i scored 90! yes, 3 wrong! But i didnt do well on the reading... 61% and 77% on the written expression. Go over the whom and who!!! You can do this... you have raised children... this test is nothing to you... math is a language and once you can read the language you are golden. Example 9 is what % of 27. whenever you see "is" it means = and of means times....
9 over 27 (9/27) times x over 100. reduce the 9 over 27 to 1/3 and you remember 1/3 is 33%. if you didnt remember just divide 3 into 1 and you get .33 move the decimal. I'm telling you just go over it with someone who loves math... and just keep doing the problems and by sunday you will have it down. You can do it!! oh and you will notice some of the same math problems are on the NET.
PS sorry for the lower case, I am using my daughter' s laptop and the keys are so small. oh and by the way, I'm 42. you can do it!! keep us posted

I took the NET last July and I studied more than I needed to. My suggestion is to brush up on very basic math skills.

If you have any question on what to study the most I will be definately glad to assist! pluss any doubts on problems or questions...
basicaly the net consists of:
-MAth-
Whole numbers
Decimal operations
