Does anyoen ahve any definitive or even subjective opinions of one FNP certifying exam over the other? I dont know which one to take--no one from my rpogram has taken the ANPP, however I am curious and kinda feel that if Mrs Fitzgerald states that the questions are more clearly stated thats the one for me! Help!

i have heard that the aanp exam is more clinically relevant...

however, i wrote the ancc exam

because it was more convenient and at the time more widely known(if employers mentioned

national cert...that was the one named)

i found it a difficult to read exam....whether I passed or failed......i really had no clue at the end of the exam...i did quite well when the report came out

but at the end of the exam....i thought it was entirely possible to have failed!!!

given the choice, i would probably prefer to write a clinically focused exam like the aanp

I think the ANCC exam does not include normal values for labs.

I hate rote memorization of numbers and didn't want to stress over which text's values to study because not all are exactly the same. so I chose the AANP. I don't remember if the normal values were always listed, I think they were listed if part of the question but not if part of the answer.

Those who took the ANCC exam could answer whether the values were listed or not.

:banghead: The ANCC is by far the worst exam. I had so many questions about nursing theory and the np role and BS. I hated that exam and recommend that all NP examinees take the AANP.

I took ANCC because I missed the window to take the AANP and as I am in a union it was cheaper, but............AANP is a much more politically active organization for nurse practitioners. They actually work to help us with lots of things. In Butte Montana there was a huge legal fight (still going on) with a bunch of docs and a NP owned practice. AANP sent lawyers to Butte to help, all free of charge!

So even though I chose ANCC for different reasons, I would support AANP. But I am now getting my post-master's as a Family Psych Nurse Practitioner and AANP does not have a certification for that, only ANCC. so it can depend on your specialty.
