AACN Peds ECCO

I used to work in an adult ICU as a PCT. They used AACN's ECCO for all of their new nurses coming to work in the ICU.

I currently work in a PICU and we do not utilize the Peds ECCO. I was wondering if any other PICU nurses have had any experience with it and if it was worth it. If your hospital did not use it, how was information presented to you during your orientation?

Nope. No formalized didactic orientation process at the time I was hired. We had 5 days of lectures that followed no discernible format, just a TON of information thrown at us willy-nilly. Our buddy shifts also had no foundation or gradual build-up of responsibility for patient care. A couple of years ago, in response to a staff survey that indicated education was sadly lacking, ECCO was assessed and some licenses bought. But it wasn't made part of the orientation; people were invited to work through the modules "if they wanted to". Some did, a lot didn't. Now the entire education model has been overhauled and the first handful of orientees has been through it. We'll see if it improves the quality of their orientation soon.

I'd love to know how that works out for your unit. My hospital didnt purchase ECCO, we did a mix of lectures, boot camps and some modules thru CE Direct. Im just wondering if ECCO was better or what kind of experience others have had with it.
