A little pet peeve re: returning students, this is a vent!

Nursing Students General Students

Published

I have no problem when it comes to accepting that some students may be going through a problem (personal or healthwise) when deciding to drop out one semester and then reapplying the next semester. But my pet peeve is when someone takes a spot, doesn't give it a real chance, quits and reapplies the very next semester. Because they have all of their prereqs done, they will go to the top of the list. So not only have they taken a spot from a student last semester, they are going to take another spot this semester. It is even more frustrating because it is a friend of mine who is doing this!

Am I being petty?

I know what you're talking about.

A girl in my semester dropped last month. I asked her why and she said that she only made nursing her major because her friend was doing that. Her friend failed last semester by one point and since the girl I was talking to didn't have her friend there anymore, she decided to quit. JEEESHHH!!!! I was irate for exactly the reasons you mentioned. It's one thing to take the spot and learn you just don't think nursing is right for you, but to deprive others of a spot just to do something your friend is doing and then throw it away is quite another. IMHO.

I could go on.....
