A huge hurdle

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get into informatics. Can someone tell me if I've got a snowball's chance in hell, or how much more exp/education I'll need to get my foot in the door.

Currently:

- I have a BSN RN with 6 months experience working in the ER

- I have a bachelors in information technology (never worked in the IT field professionally, but very tech savvy and have written simple programs in C, C++, and Visual Basic)

Thanks for your replies :)

Specializes in informatics for 10 years.

Of course you have a chance. Why wouldn't you?

I would say get at least a year of clinical experience, but if you can, start trying to get involved with informatics any way you can, NOW!

On this forum it seems that weekly people ask the same question...how can I get into informatics, and my guess is that they are hoping for a personalized map plan or maybe they don't have the time to sort through the older posts that ask the same questions, and which all tend to have the same response: get involved in the field of informatics in your current job. And I only mention that because it seems that's the next logical question you might pose...

But the answer to your specific question is, of course you have a chance, but it is all up to you and how motivated you to hustle for a job in informatics.
