A Few Questions..(Starting CNA Classes in the Morning)

I'm doing clinicals, so I'm not exactly finished, but....

The classroom portion of our class was pretty easy. We had to memorize some stuff. We only had a packet of worksheets to do over the weekend every week, and tests and stuff, but everyone but one girl who didn't really speak English passed. The skills lab was a little harder but still not too tough. It's really not hard, just pay attention and you'll do all right. For your first day of class I would say bring a notebook and pen. Other than that, maybe the textbook if your class doesn't supply it.

The class is easy. You'll have a lot of reading to do, as well as homework and tests, but it's very easy. All you'll need, especially for the first day, is a pen. And maybe a notebook if it makes you feel better.

The class covers a lot of ground. How to give showers and bed baths, brush someone's teeth, change sheets with the person lying in the bed, collect specimens, feeding, turning, vital signs, different ways to move someone, walking, range of motion excersizes, post-mortem care, etc. The class covers how to do all these things for people with dementia, strokes, etc. You also learn infection control.

I remember in my CNA class we had two girls who were from another country and they were allowed to take the CNA class without speaking English very well. They were constantly asking for help, and they were failing their written exams because they didn't understand it very well. My instructor flunked them in the written portion, but their clinical skills they barely passed. So therefore they flunked the CNA course, well the darn Director PASSED THEM AFTERALL!!!! I was livid because how can they pass the CNA course if they couldn't speak English and they failed almost all of their written exams. Well I don't know how they did when it came to the state exam because you need to understand English and you can't have your dictionary with you. I'm sorry but you're a hazard to your patients if you can't even speak English.

n north carolina u basically need 6th grade math skills and 10 grade reading skills, so it isn't tough, part of why the pay isn't all that.

Where or you from & where or you takeing your classes ? I just took my State Examination Skills & Written ! Very happy to say I passed and now Im a Certified CNA !!!!!! Sooooooo happy. I have to say it was alot of fun, and no it's not hard @ all. I also got to meet alot of good people in my class and made new friends. Loved it . You can go to www.pearsonvue.com and print up a candidate handbook and a practic written examination also has the skills part there to. Also there's a web site where you can view lesson video. nursing assistant-video lessons http://deptets.fvtc.edu.nursing/index.htm check it out hope it helps it did help me. Good Luck

Oh man yeah. There are/were two girls in my class who didn't speak English. One of them failed out due to the written, but they just moved her to the evening class and helped her sign up for an English class at the high school (which I thought was nice of them.) The other woman didn't even know what a lady parts was!! She's passed the written so far, but during clinical last week she ran out of the room upset when she was asked to give peri-care....my instructor let her get away with it for that day, but she told her on Monday (tomorrow) that she's going to have to do it. I don't think she's going to take the state exam though. There's some funny business going on with her. She said she wouldn't take it if she had to bring a social security card (even though she showed a photocopy to sign up for class...) and she claims she lost it. My instructor told her how to get a new one but she just shook her head and said she wouldn't take the test if she couldn't use the copy. Well, you just wasted $585! What's the point if you're not gonna take the test? I can't think of any reason except maybe she isn't a citizen and she used a copy of someone else's social security card to sign up.

I'm from Illinois and I'm attending a vocational school in lombard,IL. I go to class twice a week for 4 hours
