A day in the life of a SRNA

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hi All,

I'm just another one of many contemplating applying to CRNA school. Something that would be extremely helpful to me would be for current SRNA's to give me a snapshot of what your days are like as a SRNA. Worst / best / average, etc. Thanks.

Are you only getting 3 hours of sleep? How do you stay awake??

I remember reading this post back when I was a couple of semesters into my BSN (4 yrs ago). Remember being terrified of what ppl were posting. Since then, I've gained experience in ICU and will be starting CRNA school in August. Just posting to keep a log of my current state of emotions so that I can look back at this once I start the program. Will let yall know how things are going in a few months/years.

Best of luck to you! I'm in second didactic semester, and I'm also suddenly terrified-- I may fail out after reading those posts :) I am in class or studying 0700-1600 M-F. Usually put in some time in the evening but not a lot unless it's one or two days before a test, so one to three more hours. Always play with my kid and then spend at least an hour or more relaxing with my spouse before bed- where I can be found for eight hours a night zzzz. Weekends are probably two-ten hours per day, just depending on what's coming up that week. So maybe 55-65 hours per week-- not too bad, lots of people work more than that. I suspect I may put more time in when clinicals begin. My spouse is very supportive- I don't grocery shop, cook etc.

I used to think I wanted to do this, but was on the "probably not" side of the fence...now that I see all this? No thanks :) I'm grateful for the sharing and that there are people who do want to do this job (and moreover, the work it takes to get there, because I think I'd actually like the job), but I'll stick with ICU haha

The closest I'll get is sedation at my plastic surgery center :) xo

Final exam preparation:

7:00 am-- Wake up and get in the shower

8:00 am-- To the library with breakfast on the go

Noon-- 30-45 minute lunch break

12:30-12:45 pm-- Back in the library

7:00 pm-- Dinner break

8:00 pm-- Library

2:00 am-- Leave library

3:00 am-- Go to sleep

7:00 am-- Start over again!

You will wonder if you will make it through. But after finals are over and you did well, you will see the pay off.

Good Luck!

I LOVED those days in school! If CRNA school was always like that, I'd sign up in a second! :) xo

What school do you attend and is it frontloading or integrated? Curious to know how far into the program you are. I also have two kids (currently 1 & 4) and just got accepted to a program about 45 mins away without traffic. I'm already getting cold feet out of worrying about no time with the kids. Do you feel like you've had a pretty good balance so far throughout the program?

I respect this post for its realness. Thanks for this.

For those in integrated programs vs front-loaded, do you find yourself prepared enough to be in clinicals in the early parts of the program?
