A couple of HESI Questions

Nursing Students General Students

Hi all,

I posted a year ago, about the fact that I was thinking of taking my nursing pre reqs at 48. I just finished my second semester of pre reqs, and I've done really well so far. I've received three 4.0's and a 3.5. I'm taking the summer off, returning in the fall, and will hopefully apply to nursing during winter term.

My advisor suggested I take dosage and pharm in the fall, and take my HESI over the summer, so that's my plan. But a friend of mine thinks there's some dosage on the HESI. So I have a couple of questions - would you take the HESI before taking the dosage class? And, what's the best way to study for the HESI? I definitely want to purchase one of the study guides. I've looked at a few of them on Amazon. If there's one you recommend, please let me know which one(s) are the best. I don't care about cost, I just want to be prepared for this test.

Thanks so much!

Hi - first of all I want to say to you, GO FOR IT!! It sounds like you're off to a great start. I am 52 and started nursing school at 50. With God's grace, I will graduate in December 16 with my ADN-RN degree! There is no dosage calculations on the entrance HESI when applying for nursing school. It's basic math: decimals, fractions, etc. Once you start school and do your exit HESI tests after certain courses, then the dosage calculation will be there. There are some good books for studying HESI and there are some good websites where you can take some free practice exams. Good luck to you!!

Wow! A huge CONGRATS to you!! That's awesome!! I love hearing stories like this, they truly inspire me and let me know I'm not the only one! There's been older students in my classes in their 30's, but no one as "old" as me. I'll be the same age as you going into the program. We can do this! All the best to you! :-)
