Hi all -
As I have read & heard how awful for most the A&P coorifice is. Well, I decided on taking it during summer (shorter than the normal fall). I work FT and have a PT gig alternate weekends. To add more to the pot I have a newborn that I take care of during the day. I know its alot but felt with the other previous coorifices I took that I could handle it.
The instructer comes with a very bad reputation. Bad meaning an absolute overload of need to know stuff. Very strict and regimented and not approachable. Basically, an I don't care if you pass or fail attitude. Many, I found out, has taken this coorifice several times and others who are warned of him go to a different instructer at this college. A handful is on their 3rd time in this coorifice.
Anyway, as I mentioned I am taking the class. The grade is ONLY out of 3 lecture tests and 2 lab tests. (Shall I mention the lab tests are timed for 1 minute at each station)Well we completed our first exam. this instructure tests off of lecture NOT the book that I forked several hundred dollars for. I study ALOT about 15 hours a week give or take an hour. Still I ended up with a 50 on my first exam.
The lab we just had was on bones and we were told that during our lab the
bone would be placed on the table and a piece of tape somewhere on it and we would have to name the bone, wheres its located, posterior or superior and specify the area the tape was on the bone all with out even touching the bone. Along with that we were all given boxes with a Left or Right side of the bodies bones, not numbered nor labled and we had to identify what they were. Seems OK with a few easy ones but when you get to the teeny tiny ones like the right lateral maxilla how are you to know unless someone shows you first? I just don't get it. If you teach yourself and its wrong your up the river without a paddle. The instructor just reads the newspaper.
I am so depressed about it and scared to continue on. The instructors teaching technique is not one I can learn from. I try to inquire on questions and get a blank look from the instuctor and states to figure it out. Isnt THIS why I paid so much money for the instructor to teach me? I have a BA already and honestly I never taken a coorifice that is this tough with an instuctor that is such a jerk. The instructer teaches it like a premed coorifice. No one at the local community college is going here or taking this class to become a doctor. I just dont know what to do. I feel like bailing and if so I dont get any refunds of any sort. Yet, I don't get a lot of the class. Its like its all memorizing for the moment and than its out the door. The instructor clearly is no help. Another idea I have is to get a tutor. Not sure if this will be feasible with my schedule.
I hope that I am not the only one that is experienceing this. Does anyone have any input on my situation?

hello there, I wanted to let you know that I too had a very similar experience about 7yrs ago when I took this class. On top of all the stuff you mentioned my prof. was Asian and had a very stong accent. This is why now at this point in my life I am taking the class over b/c I did memorize just to pass. Now as a Rn for 3 yrs I realized this stuff still doen't fit the way I want it b/c I needed someone who was knowledgeable in the subject to teach it to me well.
I can't tell you what to do but I will say that if you wanted to pass the class really bad, you will find a way as I did. But I do suggest that if you don't mind withdrawing now or dropping it, I would take it with a good instructor b/c you really need to learn this stuff well. I wish you luck

I totally feel ya!
I had a HORRIBLE Physio instructor. I ended up dropping mid semester for a major reason being his/her bad attitude. Like your instructor, he/she thought that they were teaching at Stanford or something, not our local JC!
My instructor was very strict as well, if you did not answer the question on your test.. word-for - word how he/she said it, you got it wrong. The instructor had the same attitude about not caring whether people passed for failed. I ended up writing a letter to the school about him/her. .It's terrible when instructors are so detrimental to ones future!
I don't know the rules at your school, but at our we are allowed to retake all the sciences one time. (anatomy, physio, micro) Maybe you should check and see. Sounds like you might want to drop and just take during the regular semster with a different instructor.
It's up to you of course, but it seems you have a lot going on and maybe a full length class would work better for you... at least we know a different instructor would, that's for sure!
