The arch looks good actually as long as they don't call it the "Arc de Trump".  LOL.

It's unlikely it will be ready for the 250th Anniversary though, that is if they follow the existing laws regarding such things.

Saw this that I didn't post the other day.

New Post:

The White House not his private property and is actually run by the Congress and the American people and besides building permits he needs their permission because he is not King to do as he pleases with public property.

I don't really care that much, but it's just not a good look that he has said he wasn't going to remodel and then turns around and demolishes it in a time when the government is shut down and they want to cut health care subsidies, SNAP, etc.

I agree.  He should follow the rules of who decides what and how.  Except for building permits.  That idea is kinda silly.

I'm slightly curious to know if permits were obtained in the past.

But, the only reason some are upset is because it's Trump.

The project isn't being paid for by the government.

I understand the funding but said it wasn't a good look that this seems to be on his agenda.

Of course people are upset it's because he's Trump.  Like all President's before him he's criticized and scrutinized for every thing he does.  (Remember the tan suit criticism of Obama).   I think also it just adds to the "I'm President, I get to do what I want" authoritarian ideas that people are already critical of.

Living in Florida, we have to have permits for everything.  When I got a new roof I needed a permit, when I got a new water heater, I needed a permit, when I remodeled my bathroom I needed a permit.  Often on some things, such as my roof there was also a post-completion inspect done by the city.    I don't know how it's done in DC that while "it's kind of silly", it's just the rules here.

The White House though is not subject to permit rules being a federally owned property and not city property.

Apparently because the White House is federal property they are not subject to local building permits and they weren't used in the past.

For any improvements and changes to the executive mansion, the White House must submit construction plans to the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), an administration official told The Hill on Thursday.

But while the NCPC has jurisdiction over construction and renovations to the building, it "does not require permits for demolition, only for vertical construction,” the official said.

"Construction plans have not yet been submitted to the NCPC, but they will be at the appropriate time,” according to the official.

It is intresting that demolition has occurred before the construction plans have been submitted.

Again, it's not a huge issue with me, but it doesn't look good in these times.

President Crazy Pants posted on Truth Social tonight:

Just in: Documents show conclusively that Christopher Wray, Deranged Jack Smith, Merrick Garland, Lisa Monaco, and other crooked lowlifes from the failed Biden Administration, signed off on Operation Arctic Frost. They spied on Senators and Congressmen/women, and even taped their calls. They cheated and rigged the 2020 Presidential Election. These Radical Left Lunatics should be prosecuted for their illegal and highly unethical behavior!

Apparently DJT has forgotten that he was president in 2020,   Christopher Wray had been appointed by him to head the FBI, Jack Smith was working in The Hague , Merrick Garland was an appellant judge, and  Lisa Monaco was a private citizen. Does he think these people traveled back in time to conduct Arctic Frost?

Artic Frost was conducted beginning on 2022.

Arctic Frost was begun in April of 2022. Smith was appointed in November 2022.

I wish the president could focus on the government shutdown instead of 5 year old grievances and blowing fishing boats up.

This statement is maddening every time I hear it.

That's like if a bull gets into a china shop wrecking things, and someone says  "only reason some are upset is because it's a bull".

I have no personal animosity toward Trump. If he were implementing a normal Republican agenda  I'd evaluate like any other presidents  agenda

People aren't upset because of who he is—they're upset because of the damage he's doing.

Well, you picked this example to try and make your point, so...

He's having the East Wing, which is nothing more than an entrance and offices, torn down and a ballroom built in it's place.

What is the "damage he's doing" that is upsetting to you and others?

This one is less upsetting to me than nearly everything else he's doing.

I think it's a distraction to murdering Venezuelans as just one example. He tends to do these things to deflect attention. I think he has a list of things to do to deflect from every serious action.

So in the big scheme of things it's just a building, but he is a temporary resident. It's not owned by him to do as he wishes and he should consider renovations in light of it being the people's house. I don't think the end result will be something most people are proud of. But I'm not up in arms about this as I am everything else

Well, I made the comment in a discussion about this story.  So...

But, yeah youre right.  He's probably having this ballroom built just to distract from his "murdering Venezuelans".  That makes sense.  Of course, it might make more sense if they just didn't make a public announcement about it when it happens.  But, thats just me.

I've stated that the east wing had historical significance, and also served as an entrance to public tours, both of which you have dismissed. Fine. I've since found out a bunker was created by FDR that Dick Cheney and DJT were sheltered in during emergencies. That's probably unimportant to preserve.

My dismay is more related to the shifting statements about the changes that were planned as well as telling workers in the Treasure building not to post photos. Why the secrecy? Reading in the NYT and WaPo this morning, there aren't even any building plans. The big, beautiful ballroom seems to be growing by leaps and bounds, as well as the price tag. Will actually be completed by 2028?

What is the line for renovations to the White House? The west wing is "just offices". Could that be torn down without notice?
