Oct 27, 2025Oct 27 The Republicans could open the government anytime they want. They are in the majority, they can change the filibuster rule, and fund SNAP today. But they won't. They are hurting children, seniors, and military families because that's what Daddy Trump wants.

He apparently took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. The developer of that test stated that it not in any way correlates to an IQ test. You do make the point that they could do that. So, it seems then the Democrats should cut their losses and give in. They're losing on this, and unless the Republicans really screw up they can't win. So why keep this shutdown going?

The party that holds the majority is keeping the shutdown going. There is an emergency fund that can be used to fund SNAP , but the USDA refuses to use it. 25 states are suing the government to use those funds.

The Democrats have the losing hand and should fold.

Oct 29, 2025Oct 29 I don't think the Democrats should die on this hill because the public is turning against people receiving SNAP benefits. Social media is ablaze with MAGA saying why should our tax dollars fund someone buying Oreos. They don't care that people will lose SNAP because the anti-SNAP narrative doesn't include that much of the recipients are working, are children and disabled and that SNAP actually stimulates the economy. They don't care that people will lose SNAP benefits. Since it's inception they haven't liked Obamacare and killing it was always an objective, never mind the cost those on it and having to make the decision to become uninsured. The working class base is falling into the narrative that the billionaires and those in power want them to have. Don't look at their tax breaks and loopholes, or their spending, look at the poor leeches of society. People certainly don't care that the whole idea that Democrats shut down the government to give healthcare to undocumented immigrants is completely false. Democrats can try to save face somehow and give in, so people can get paid and back to work, and the SNAP benefits can be funded, and let the Republicans hang themselves with this rope, but it will hardly do any good because people don't care about SNAP or Obamacare.
Oct 29, 2025Oct 29 Because of Trump there are only winners and losers. What happened to compromise? Republicans, the party in power, have seen this coming for months. The president, or at least his staff, have seen this coming. One word from DJT and this whole mess ends tomorrow. But he's on the other side of the world, getting his head patted and being told he's pretty while people are working without pay, his Ag secretary is refusing to feed children and elders, and insurance premiums are tripling. And oh yeah, the Pete Kegstand is provoking a war with Venezuela. Tell me again who is winning and losing.

And, BTW, Republicans seem to be near proposing legislation to fund SNAP throughout the shutdown. It'll be interesting to see if the Dems go along with that.

It looks like some Democrats are supporting Sen. Hawley's bill. Will Speaker Johnson be allowed to call the House back?
Oct 30, 2025Oct 30 It is the Democrats who are keeping the shutdown going. Even the left wing news is reporting it! One (of the many) reasons is the fact that the healthcare subsidies are about to expire and the Dems don't want them too. This is how the "temporary" measures end up permanent because politicians say one thing...it is only because of Covid blah blah and it will be temporary (that the taxpayers will cover others bills)… and then they fight for it to be permanent. Either way the Dems are the ones who are keeping the shutdown going. Yesterday was the 13th time they voted to keep the shutdown going. https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/09/democrats-press-on-with-shutdown-threats-even-the-media-isn't-buying-their-obstruction/

And, wasnt Obamacare supposed to bring premiums down? So, why are subsidies needed?
