Got my license renewed.

I just renewed my expired RN license. It took about 6 weeks to get my RN license renewed after letting it lapse last February. Cost was $111 and I did not have to take the boards again. Just thought I'd pass that along in case that information is helpful to someone else here in WI. I quit nursing back in April '09 from pure burnout while working in a very intensive ICU. I was not happy that I had to quit after 12 years, but was happy that I did because it was affecting my health. After a failed attempt at another profession (photography) and being unable to find any other work that I can live on, it looks like I'm going back. Not to the same unit, but hopefully with a fresh outlook I'll find something I like again! Curtis Ambulance here has a 3 hour BLS renewal just about any day of the week for just $55 so that looks like the best way to go. It will be nice getting a steady paycheck again, just hope I can endure the work I'll have to go through to get it! :)

Hard work pays off, congrats! :)

Way to look out for others, also.

How does one get on the inactive list if not sure when one will again practice nursing? I do want to be sure I can again get licensed.

I don't think there is an inactive list. You can always renew and not practice. I believe, that here in Wisconsin, you have 18 months to renew before you need to retake the state board exam again. That would suck! As an update, I got hired in chronic dialysis, but it just wasn't for me. The training was good, the work wasn't difficult at all, and I suppose that I could have endured it, but it seemed to me that the company was having too many business struggles (not financial) and I didn't want to get pulled into all that. Too many red flags were being thrown up, and I had a gut feeling that it wasn't going to go well. I could go back into the hospital arena, but my heart isn't into that either. My negative memories far out weigh the positives. So, we'll see. Maybe I could help do colonoscopies for 12 hours a day? Oh joy. :D I drove by Wheaton in Franklin one evening and I swear there were more cars by the restaurant across the road, than there were in the hospital parking lot. That can't be a good sign.

Thanks for the advice. I quite working in dialysis in 2007. Have kept up my license just in case I ever want to get involved again in nursing. I did some contract nursing for awhile, but it didn't keep me very busy and of course then not much money. I can't say what I really like about the profession anymore. My love was dialysis, inpt. and outpt., but too many politics involved. The younger generation of nurses is another matter altogether.

I would not want to retake state boards again so I guess I will continue to renew my license whenever it comes due. Hope I can continue doing this without working. Have you any knowledge about not working and still being able to renew every two years?

As far as I know, there aren't any continuing education requirements or anything like that. Give them your money and they renew your license.

Well good going girls. I was paying and renewing too, until I slipped thru the cracks. I took a LOA from the work field in 2004. I let my GA license lapse. I was 1 day late past renewal. Well i figured i would just pay a late fee and keep on trucking. OH NO...., they wanted proof from my "employer"...and because I had not worked in 5 yrs....I now have to take a refresher course, which is 16 wks, and cost like 800.00 :banghead:.... Thats in GA. TO GET THEM BACK. I LIVE IN FL NOW. The kicker is too. I was orginally licensed in FL...which I let those license expire, because I moved to GA....much money to keep them both (sigh). Can you imagine what I am going thru now to get both???? I feel so violated, because I WANT TO WORK AGAIN!!!!!!!

MORAL OF THE STORY. NEVER EVER LET YOUR LICENSE EXPIRE, LAPSE, RELAPSE, DIE, WHATEVER....we worked too hard to get them.
